How to Calculate
Enter any dollar amount and the year you want to start from, then choose an end year (defaults to today). The calculator uses the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to determine purchasing power changes. **Formula**: Adjusted Value = Original Amount × (CPI in End Year / CPI in Start Year). The result shows what that historical amount would be worth in today's dollars, plus the cumulative inflation rate and other context to help you understand how money's value has changed over time.
Formula & Method
Adjusted Value = Original Amount × (CPI_end / CPI_start)
Cumulative Inflation Rate = [(CPI_end - CPI_start) / CPI_start] × 100%
Average Annual Inflation = [(CPI_end / CPI_start)^(1/years) - 1] × 100%
